As we get older, our skin loses both volume and moisture and its youthful elasticity decreases, resulting in a sagging of the skin and the formation of wrinkles. One option for restoring the natural freshness of your skin is Botulinum toxin – also known as “Botox”®. Botulinum toxin is a purified protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
Botox® is frequently used to treat wrinkles around the eyes or on the forehead which are mainly caused by normal muscle activity.
The effect is reached by reducing the activity of the muscles which contribute to the formation of the respective lines and wrinkles. The treatment mostly takes 15 minutes and consists of several small, hardly noticeable injections. The treatment takes effect after a few days only and the effect usually lasts for half a year. Botox® is also ideally suited for the treatment of excessive perspiration known as hyperhidrosis, as well as for migraine.
As the effects of Botox® are only temporary, it is also free of long-term side-effects.
In some cases, it is inevitable to restore lost volume to obtain a natural result, for example in the case of nasolabial folds.
Dermal fillers are used in these problem areas. Dermal fillers may be considered as an injectable implant as they lift the skin area upon injection and replace lost skin volume or reshape problem areas of the face.
Dermal fillers are different types of biological filling substances such as hyaluronic acid which has a highly compatible molecular structure. As hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the human body and is a basic element of the structure of the skin, the allergy risk is lower than with previous collagen-based preparations and it causes neither chronic inflammations nor allergies.
Fillers are removed from the body over a period of approximately 12 to 18 months and are used to fill wrinkles, to enhance lips (both volume and shape can be optimized by fillers) or to shape the contours of the face.
Examples for treatments using fillers:
• Injections of nasolabial folds
• Lip augmentation (volume & shape)
• Lifting of the corners of the mouth and filling of perilabial wrinkles
• Filling of tissue defects in the chin and jaw region
• Smoothing of acne scars
• Lifting of eyebrows
• Injection of under-eye bags
• Rejuvenation of the back of the hands
